Downwind paddling in the city
My hometown Goteborg is divided by the river Göta älv. My friend Trent lives south of the river and commute with his surfski to his office at Volvo north of the river. That must surely be the best way to get to work. He states that there are really good downwind conditions when the wind coming from west. With a 30 knot wind blowing from west last tuesday my friend Patric and I decided to try it out ourselves. This was the first time I ever paddled from the river mouth to the city center. It’s a 11,5 km long paddle trip.
It was perfectly alright conditions. The waves tended to be good in the middle of the waterway. Normally the waterways are very busy but there were hardly no traffic at the moment. The waves flattened out at times just to be bigger again within a minute or two, proberbly depending on the current from river. It was great fun to have done the trip but I prefer open sea!

Passing the Alvsborg Bridge

The Harbor in Goteborg is the biggest in Scandinavia

Passing the Stena ferry Germanica.

Reaching the final destination. The tall ship Barken Viking is permanently moored in the harbor next to the opera house in the central part of Goteborg.
