The island of Ibiza is the choice for many Europeans if you like to party. Now there is greater reason to go there. They have great downwind conditions. Check out this video from Dani Sanches when he is training with Toni on a double surfski.  It’s fast, I wonder what speed they had?

Check out this DIY hand made surfski Balance trainer from the Youtube user RivannaHipSnap:

This took less than 2 hours to build with the trip to Lowes included. It consists of a 1″x15″ table top disc cut in half and a 2″x6″ board cut to length along with some screws and scrap 2″x4″ board pieces for bracing. Total cost less than $14 USD. A good balance trainer that is definitely more challenging on hardwood floors than on carpeting. A great ab workout as well as a reasonably good kayak balance trainer. Sit on this whilst watching TV or reading a book and learn balance skills at the same time!

During the past years there have been more and more film clips available at YouTube and Vimeo from different water sports, surfski is not an exception.  When waterproof cameras have become better, cheaper and easier to use it has made film making more common among paddlers. More people want to document and share their experiences. That is really great. You can find reviews, tutorials and inspirational videos on YouTube and other sites.

Emma Nilsson and Evy Lantz came up with a great idea to start a Surfski Film Festival. This year it was held in Hindås, west of Göteborg in Sweden. The film festival was a success and great fun. Emma and Evy hope and belive that the interest will increased even more to next year with more contestants.  They also hope that more people became inspired to start with surfski paddling and discover the fun with downwind paddling.

Emma Nilsson and Evy Lantz with the first prize for the best surfski film. The prize is actually Dawid Mocke’s flip flops. He visited Sweden in May during the Spring Camp 2012 and forgot his flip flop.

During the night more surfski films were shown, to get inspiration from paddlers all over the world. There were also discussions about next year’s surfski season here in Sweden.
