Great performance in ICF Kayak Marathon World Championships

During the weekend the ICF Kayak Marathon World Championships was held in Rome, Italy. Some of the best surfski paddlers performed really well. Joep van Bakel from the Netherlands finished in the 6th position in the K1 class. In the K2 class the South Africans Jasper Mocke and Simon van Gysen was doing great and won the bronze medal. Great results from surfski paddlers.

On the live web broadcast the expert commentators were puzzled over these paddlers. They had never heard of them before. One official trainer from the South-African team explained about surfski paddling and how much a surfski paddler practice. One europan official trainer who was interviewed after the race had a great conclusion. Surfski training seems to be a great way of training to be a good Marathon kayaker. 🙂
